You can create new groups (which is still one of these predefined roles) where you're able to define what role users will gave on specific forums.
You can create a new Registered type, that's set as Private on a specific subforums of which you choose :)
You can also override what role a user got on a forum on a user per user level.

So first you set the general user role in the group, and are able to set a higher role on specific forums, and are able to override the user role on the user edit screen :)

I guess it does. My forum at kampforum.no does however have a few special subforums for privileged users, I'm just wondering how I am going to convert these. I'll need at least 4 different usergroups on the registered level I think.

Your forum privileges setup seem to be very hierarchy based too. Guest, Registered, Moderator, Administrator. What if I want to add a group thats got reading/posting rights only on certain boards?

"private" is like registered. It just makes it easier to create special forums that only specific user groups should have access to.
Like for VIP type of forums. The purpose of "private" is not a middle thing between registered and moderator, but as an alternate group to registered so it's easier to restrict read/view access to specific forums.

This acl system are leftovers from the original extension, and we'll most likely replace it with regular joomla groups for NinjaBoard 1.1.

Did that answer your question?
